555314 2007-06-02 07:39:00 Funny that, from your prior post you weren't familier with the incident, claimed it couldn't happen, and now think it was the only way to do it.

Filp flop filp...flop.

Anyway, Sure, it was a wise move, If the persons life was worth less then the windows he was smashing.

Funny that here in Wanganui when all hell is breaking loose on the streets (fighting and vandilism...especially shop windows) the cops sit in the cars 80m away untill it calms down, then they move in.

And they don't even shoot anyone.

555315 2007-06-02 07:44:00 Is the person's life worth more than the cop who he was going to beat with the bat? roddy_boy (4115)
555316 2007-06-02 07:50:00 Now...how clever would the cop be to step in and get batted?

He had more options then to either shoot him dead or get whacked with the bat.

Like waiting for a dog unit, Would have meant nothing if a few more windows got broken in the mean time.

555317 2007-06-02 09:28:00 Ah, ok then yes, I do believe that the cops used the appropriate means to stop the guy who was basically past listening to any one.Bull****. There are numerous ways the guy could have been stopped without being killed

Is the person's life worth more than the cop who he was going to beat with the bat?NO persons life is worth more than anothers. However, bear in mind, the officer involved had other options. He chose to shoot.
Incidentally, also bear this in mind. Word is, the officer who shot and killed Micheal Wallace also shot himself in the foot previously (yes literally) at firearms practice. How true this is, I'm not 100% sure as I never got to talk to the officer involved. But if its true, was what he did correct?

I guess we could debate the "for" and "against" till the cows come home. From what I remember the guy was having a few issues at the time and was apparently threating to kill the cops - according to the media reports. He was advancing towards them in a very threatening manner. I don't remember how many cops were on the scene, they shot and killed him after repeatedly warning him to stop...Could they have done it differently...maybe..possibly... if so he might be alive today...
Hindsight is a wonderful thing for people who weren't there on the night...

No offense to anyone here, but what I meant by "none of us were there" was none of us were there with the Police at the time of the incident unless you were Myth?

555323 2007-06-02 22:44:00 Cops here are quite forgiving really. I have had a run in with cop who eventually just said "You have a good uppercut, good evening".

I would say if that was in the states Id be a goner.

I just think cops here have too many rules, nobody fears them, and lets be honest, fear is the biggest discipline.
