I think it takes an IDE Hard Drive.

I have no idea if IDE Hard Drives are all interchangable but I am assuming so.
Currently a 60Gb Hard Drive in it, I was wondering if likes of ascent.co.nz would be ok in it.

I have pulled plenty of PC's to bits and built them but never ventured inside a Laptop so don't know a lot about them.

Yes, the R51 is old but it needs to hang on in there for a while longer yet before I replace it.

747428 2009-02-13 00:33:00 Is there a plate at the back which you can remove to access the hard drive? Laptop hard drives are considered user replaceable.

I know all SATA notebook hard drives are identical, so they can be swapped with ease.

ANy 2.5" HDD will do - just make sure if yours is IDE that you buy IDE.
Western Digital would be my recommendation.

747430 2009-02-13 01:35:00 thank you all.
Yes it is IDE, and no I am not a fan of WD.
But now I know they fit that is great.
Yep one small screw and it is out, I can hook it up to my PC to transfer the data plus IBM recover partition.
