| 747886 | 2009-02-14 05:35:00 | Hi Guys Has anyone downloaded and tried the Vista recovery disk from Microsoft? I have downloaded it and I cant see just how it works. There are two folders on the disk, BOOT, and SOURCES, and one file called Bootmgr, none of the files on the disk seem to be executable, Unless of course Vista runs files differently than Win Xp. Maybe some one could suggest another Vista Recovery that I could use. My Laptop Crashed after Downloading the latest updates from Microsoft, When I finally got it working I found it was caused by the latest Defender updates, I couldn't even access my DVD player thats was Frozen as well, Once I had uninstall ed the Defender updates all was working fine. I want a Rescue disk in case this happens again in the future. Cheers and Thanks |

You will need a torrent program to download the ISO file - but its is the actual recovery section of a Vista DVD - all legit BTW. |

| 747888 | 2009-02-14 05:44:00 | You may have extracted the iso using Winrar, like I did when I was a novice:p Just burn the iso with any iso burning app, my fav is ImgBurn. BTW the vista recover disc can't fix everything, so I suggest you back up your stuff or even better-image your disc with something like Macrium or DriveImageXML. You can also use system restore. Do you have any PC problems currently? If so, just ask and we'll be happy to help:) Blam |

Thanks for the info, That recovery prog that you mentioned is the one that I downloaded, This Vista is becoming quite a Pain, even when I click on Windows Mail it says Windows dosn't reconise it, it is unknown, am I sure if I want to open it. I am the Administrator and I cant even get into programs to change the Prefs.. Cheers |

| 747890 | 2009-02-14 23:36:00 | You might have a virus. Disable system restore, and in safe mode do the following: Download Malware Bytes Anti-Malware, update and scan. www.malwarebytes.org Also get Spyware Terminator, update and scan. www.spywareterminator.com Then, download HijackThis and post a log here for analysis Blam |

| 747891 | 2009-02-14 23:42:00 | You may also have damaged system files - the recovery Console, while it has options to fix the OS you will be better off doing any fixes from within Windows. After doing the Spyware scan Blam suggested - click the Start - in the search type in sfc /scannow (Note the space between c /s ) Let the system do a file check - it will take some time once the black box opens. Just a suggestion - do the spyware scans in normal mode - safe mode doesn't always let the programs work correctly. Also make sure you do FULL scans, not quick - in spyware Terminator, go to settings ( top Right) then on the left under "Scan Settings" - tick the top two boxes that are unticked - then do a FULL scan. Edited: is it only the mail thats not working or other Apps as well. ? |
