558109 2007-06-16 06:14:00 OK..that raises a question then...

If I save and send files that are ogg, can the average person play them in WMP?

Just stick with mp3 or wmp formats. That way the majority of people won't have a problem and start asking what an ogg is and weather it's related to the egg

Are you saying that there are no compatibility issues with WMP? I suspect you may not be telling the whole truth here!

If we are going to be absolute, then i think we'll find that both oggs and .wma's are NOT universally compatible with all computers and portable music players.
MP3s have the least issues here.

All the "windows media" formats were created for the sole purpose of making your files, or at least the right to play them, property of microsoft. They were not invented to make anyones life easy, 'cept Bills :)

O.K i will rephrase it. The majority of people will have WMP installed on there machine when they brought it. Better still, stick with mp3
If you reread surferjoes question he was asking about the best format(compatible) for Windows Media Player,

558113 2007-06-16 06:33:00 Also depends on what you would consider to be the "majority" of mp3 players ;) Since portable media devices that play wma files are out numbered by a vast number by mp3 players that don't play wma files. winmacguy (3367)
558114 2007-06-16 06:44:00 I also see that I have a new icon on my desktop now: WinCinema Manager..whatever that is. HJT says it's SanDisk Sansa's device..but I don't really know what for.

I didn't suspect that I could put vids in the player too..this might be neat-o too.

That is what Handbrake is for, but it will chew up your memory space very quickly. Average video compresses to about 500MB-750MB using H.264 codec
Welcome to the world of portable new media, surferjoe.

558118 2007-06-16 07:00:00 Handbrake is free but I am not sure if the Scandisk will support h.264 or mp4. If it does then your ok. Handbrake is very easy to use. winmacguy (3367)
