557798	2007-06-10 13:22:00	Go nuclear? Not in NZ. For once in my life I am in the cleanest country I've ever set my feet upon. And I'd like to keep it that way. Even if modern technology makes nuclear power safe, I'd rather not take chances and stick to wind turbines. I'd love to keep NZ or any other countries for this matter from being a repetition of Chernobyl. I don't understand why residents are heavily opposed to the windfarm project. Because at the end of the day it would be much more environmentally friendly - there will be no harmful emissions excreted in the production of electricity using wind - a naturally occurring phenomenon. So I take it that you never have a calm day? Unfortunatley the hot air from the Beehive does not get here. And you expect what?	Sweep (90)

They also have to be taken offline on a regular basis for servicing etc. I'm all for nuclear power, but it isn't cost effective in NZ. We just don't need it. Tidal is the way to go.	roddy_boy (4115)

Tidal power has a raft of problems associated with it - corrosion of equipment, need for huge areas of ocean etc. Unless the natural conditions support it, it simply isn't worthwhile.	somebody (208)
