558284 2007-06-12 04:48:00 Ok just installed it on my laptop, I'm finding i fairly snappy but the fonts are terrible, extremely blocky and just hideous,
but aprt from the fonts it seems OK to me

[QUOTE]1. Copy the fonts from Safari.resources to windows
2. Delete the Safari.resources directory
3. Try starting Safari.. it won't and will show the window of 'reporting error to windows'.
4. Double click on the safari installer file and select the repair option./QUOTE]
Pulled this from the apple support site, not sure what it's meant to do

558285 2007-06-12 04:55:00 Any way you can block flash ads and image ads with Safari?

I can't test these at the moment (back on my 2k machine), but Pith helmet or Safari Stand apparently can do something similar to flash block, although whether either of them work with the windows version isn't mentioned

558287 2007-06-12 05:12:00 Just got it and used it. Makes the fonts and the images look horrible and there is no way it is faster than FF. FF still pwns all!!! And Firefox looks cool:D And Safari is a Apple product as well.

I downloaded the Mac version last night do to a FF/Safari comparison ... I'm still a FF user on my iMac, I haven't bothered to download the Windows version since I don't use XP-FF for web browsing. It will be interesting to see what the uptake is like in the Windows community since FF is already a very good free alternative to IE and unlike iTunes for Windows I can't see any additional benefits so far for Windows users doing their web browsing in Safari that they didn't already get from FF.

558288 2007-06-12 06:35:00 Meh, seems fairly average to me, I find the way it looks an interesting novelty. Can't tell how fast it is compared to Firefox because of all the adverts and Flash on the pages lol, what a joke after the peace and quiet of Firefox with Adblock+, NoScript and Flashblock.

At the moment I can't get my bookmarks to open except in a new tab!!!!!!!

558289 2007-06-12 06:40:00 Well a quick check around the traps and the consensus seems fairly ho hum about Safari on Windows with half the beta testers being impressed and the other half not fussed. One comment I did read mentioned Safari for Windows being used as a testing platform for developers for the iPhone, so that could be interesting. winmacguy (3367)
558290 2007-06-12 06:51:00 Where are the proxy settings? The only ones I can find seem unclickable in edit/preferences/advanced at the bottom. zqwerty (97)

558293 2007-06-12 07:35:00 I downloaded the Mac Public Beta of Safari 3 earlier today and it is just as stable as the previous version for me, although for some reason PDF's still make the browser crash when it tries to load them within a page which is somewhat frustrating. :annoyed:

Other than that, the new method of searching for words on a page is very nice, as is the ability to drag tabs to between windows and resize text boxes.

It seems a little quicker than the previous version as well. :)
