After hearing enough stories of parcels going missing from just about every courier company, I've come to realise that for those computers that are worth a LOT (like the $4k+ one I have to send today or tomorrow), I need good coverage of them.

NZ Couriers and CourierPost, two of my favourite courier companies, both have $1500 claim limits and don't sell extra insurance.

So, who should I use? I need signature required delivery of parcels worth up to around $5000, and they should have fairly decent service (for a courier company).

Alternatively, a company that would insure the loss of a parcel sent by NZ Post would do fine.

I can't afford the risk of losing $3000 when a $4500 PC goes missing.

NZPost do sell insurance - I sent one like that once. Did cost me $120 to mail though.

The safest method would be to put it in your car and drive it there.

They used to, but they have withdrawn that service now unfortunately. I would prefer not to pay more than about $125 for an <20kg computer.
