558439 2007-06-12 12:44:00 do you guys reckon fsx will run fine on xp pro, 2gb ram, amd 4600 dual core and maybe two 8600gt in sli? (overclocking is no problem either if necessary)

oh, and what's a good joystick brand?

(people who actually run fsx please comment)

note: i'm going sli due to price among other reasons, i do realise for max performance i should buy an 8800gtx or the like but frankly i'm not that rich

oh and a further note, anyone want to buy one or two asus 6600gt? 128mb pci-e, overclock 10% no problems whatsoever - even have heatsinks on the ram lol

558440 2007-06-12 21:12:00 From what I have seen (having an SLI system myself) and also read, Flight Sim X does not take advantage of SLI in any way whatsoever, and on that note, for only an extra ~$70 over what you are looking to spend at the moment on gfx cards, you can get an 8800gts 320mb which will serve you much better.

apart from that it looks fine, although perhaps consider a core 2 duo system?

558441 2007-06-12 21:45:00 FSX runs pretty good on my system, although I have to have most of the sliders turned down to do so. I don't get many trees or have buildings at the airports etc, but that doesn't worry me as most of my flying is at high altitude. I have SP1 installed.

hrmmm, i'll look at the 8800 then, but the two 8600 were going to be a stretch of the pocket anyway

and as for going intel, i've already got my amd system and definetly cannot afford to bin all that in favour of intel

558444 2007-06-13 06:47:00 ok, an 8800 is getting a bit out of my price range, but that said, how would a 7950GT fare?

the 6600gt are made by ASUS with 128MB samsung ram etc etc. they're $170 odd on pricespy and a bit less on tradme, so being used and without any of their packaging i'd try for $100 each ono, to be sold only once i've gotten my new card, of course

8800GTS 320mb - $475 on pricespy.

Hmmm, ASUS is good but.....$100 is more than I'd pay.
I can get a 7600GS for that.

558446 2007-06-13 07:32:00 meh, i'm working off market price, and was thinking of lowering a bit to 170 for both.

problem is today i realised my wof expired last month. i went and i passed, but only just, so i need to buy two new sport tyres for my bike, preferably by the end of july (at which point i'll be running on slicks lol)
