749124 2009-02-19 01:25:00 Hi guys,

I have an old HP Pavilion ZV5000 laptop in which the hard drive failed. Today I bought a new one and I cannot install XP because the hard drive has not been recognised. Some google searches later I found out that I have to install new drivers so the new hard drive can be recognized.

However, HP's website where I thought I found the driver doesn't work or doesn't let me download the driver?

Also because there is no floppy drive on the laptop could I install the driver (if I can download one) from a CD-Rom?

Thanks in advance.

749125 2009-02-19 01:42:00 Sounds like its a sata hdd. Disable ACHI in the BIOS / change it to IDE mode

Save the settings, then install XP. Just dont change it back after, it'll probably crash

You could probably put the drivers on a cd, but you'll probably have to use Nlite to slipstream them

749126 2009-02-19 01:57:00 I replaced the old IDE drive with a new IDE drive?! The only thing I can see in the BIOS is change boot order?

According to this website www.windowsreinstall.com I have to download the IDE drivers but that doesn't work two ways. HP website doesn't let me download and I have no floppy?

Sooo confused.

749127 2009-02-19 02:05:00 I've never had to use drivers to install something on an IDE hdd

Or heard anywhere else, that you need drivers for an IDE hdd

All you have to do is boot from the windows cd, format / partition the hdd, then install windows on it

Did you boot from the cd?

Did you connect it properly??

749128 2009-02-19 02:47:00 I suspect that the hard drive is not working. The people at PB Tech told me to get an IDE drive when I brought my laptop in. The old drive is a Seagate ST93015A which as far as I can recognize an IDE drive. However, the prongs look slightly different. Maybe that's were the problem is? silu (9854)
749129 2009-02-19 03:04:00 ... the prongs look slightly different.

How did you install the new drive when they are different? You can only replace an IDE with an IDE and a SATA with a SATA.

Probably there is an adaptor on the old drive. You have to remove the adaptor and plug in into the new drive.

749130 2009-02-19 03:19:00 God I'm stupid. Of course I forgot about the adaptor. Just running the install now and it seems to work. Thanks for helping a confused noob. silu (9854)
