2009-02-18 08:28:00 | I was advised to remove some unwanted start-up programs from my desktop, which had been slowing it down. However, since then I get a pop-up telling me Windows is blocking some start-up programs. I can exit that, but every time I start the computer it comes back again. Is there any way to get rid of it for good? | Beemer (6956) | |

2009-02-19 09:44:00 | Whats the OS - if its Vista ( or Xp for that matter) open the security Center ( control Panel in XP) or Vista click the start orb, type in Security Select the security center from results - on the Left select " change the way security center alerts Me" Select " dont notify me or display Icon" should stop any warning. | wainuitech (129) | |

2009-02-21 02:50:00 | You uninstalled it? Vista doesn't let you. | pctek (84) | |

2009-02-21 03:09:00 | Ah yes. I'd vlited windows defender so I'd forgotten you can't "uninstall it" This probably would be the next best thing: www.groovypost.com

2009-02-22 21:56:00 | I went into the control panel and programs and features and chose uninstall - and it's gone from the menu. It doesn't show up in the program list either - so it appears to be gone! But I am still getting the message every time the computer starts. If I choose 'exit' I don't get it again while the computer is on, but it appears again the next time it is turned on. I tried changing the way I am alerted as mentioned below, but it won't 'keep' the changes - even when I click on the option to not be notified and not have the icon showing, it doesn't make any difference. As soon as I click on it the box closes, but when I open it again, the top option (to be notified) is sort of highlighted around the edges. I just went in and did what blam6 recommended (disabling it) so hopefully that will fix it when I start the computer next time. Not sure what you mean by 'vlited' though?

2009-03-05 21:07:00 | Has anyone come up with any more suggestions regarding this? The error message is still appearing every time I start the computer and the only way to stop it popping up every half hour or so is to right click on it and choose exit. I'd really like to get it to disappear for good though! | Beemer (6956) | |
