559271 2007-06-14 22:23:00 Just noticed that, without realising, I have drifted over 2500 posts in the current Forum format. Now, adding to that my 4500-odd in the previous version, and maybe another 1000 or so in the original PF1, that makes around 8000 posts.

Allowing that each post occupied around 10 minutes (a very conservative estimate, given my tendency to flannel on interminably) that adds up to about 1350 hours, give or take, or 112 12hr days, or around 170 8 hour days. Unfortunately the reality is that my time spent on PF1 is probably five times that at least.

Now, I am just a minor player in the post number ranks, Metla has probably three times that number, as do several others. GF was up to a phenomenal number at one stage, as were Chill and Foxy too, and I haven't dared look to see what current numbers are for the other regulars.

Taking a conservative (and highly unrealistic view) if I had charged out all of that time at my normal rate I'd be looking at around $150,000 +gst worth of income.

So, were Fairfax aware of the contingent liability they face from the more prolific posters here when they took over IDG? .......And, more to the point, where do I send my account?

I want to get in first before Metla et al break the Bank.

Cheers

559272 2007-06-15 02:11:00 Assuming the hours you would be charging for (hypothetically-speaking, of course!) are the posting ones (1350) rather than the browsing ones (6750+) - nice rate! johcar (6283)
559273 2007-06-15 02:46:00 Pffft. And my measly rate is only 45 bucks per hour. I now feel seriously hard done by! Greg (193)
559274 2007-06-15 03:42:00 It's the chargeable hours in a week that determine income, not your hourly rate .

You set your rate according to the market value (and uniqueness) of your skills and services but that doesn't mean that people will beat a path to your door, as budding yodelling teachers have probably found out .

I am marketing a hi-tech but niche service and it can be a long time between drinks . Sometimes I would prefer to be mainstream and charge a lower hourly rate, because although I'd then have less time for posting on PF1, I'd earn a lot more!

Cheers

559275 2007-06-15 03:49:00 Pffft. And my measly rate is only 45 bucks per hour. I now feel seriously hard done by! :lol:Geez Greg, even my rate is a minimum of 30% more than that - and I'm sure you're more cleverer (:)) than me!!

Being constantly employed (contracted) is a bonus - in fact, most weeks I get so many calls from potential clients (recruiters or REAL clients), I wish that cloning was a reality for humans!! :D

Maybe I just need to increase my hourly rate a bit, to discourage the tyre kickers and reflect my true worth to an enterprise....;) :D

But nevermind... I'll scrape by... at least my missus has a regular job!

Meanwhile I'll just return to cleaning the dishes.
