559047 2007-06-14 08:35:00 Telecom has submitted a plan to the Commerce Commission that, if accepted, would see competitors able to install equipment in 40 of its 600 or so phone exchanges by early 2009.

559048 2007-06-14 08:41:00 More about it here (www.stuff.co.nz) (why they released it today etc) Myth (110)
559049 2007-06-15 09:37:00 Hmmm...

/personthingy wonders if a certain cooperation is stalling with a new plan yet again?

/personthingy also wonders if they been told to at least look like they're stalling by the powers that be who would otherwise have to do something.:xmouth:

559050 2007-06-15 10:01:00 MY PROPOSAL.

Govt buys a large house/small building adjacent to each Telephone Exchange.
Then rents space to each & every ISP in NZ. A bunch of cable is run between each Exchange into the house/small building. That way there is NO excuse for Telecom to deny access to their buildings
Any "Outages" from the Exchange to any house/small building will bring an instant & mandatory fine to telecom. tel;ecom is to immediately acknowledge said "Outage" as their fault. Simple really.

All we need is a Govt with the Guts to do it !!! Dream on John... PJ :(

559051 2007-06-17 00:10:00 That is just 6.6% in 2 years, and probably all remote exchanges with lots of spare room inside where the old water-wheel powered equipment used to hide, servicing <3% of the population.

Somehow I don't think that's going to be enough to save their bacon. They need a new CEO very quickly, and one with balls (or at least a detectable testoserone level and fuzzy upper lip) if they are to avoid getting gutted by legislation.

It's deeds they need to announce and implement, not just placating words and token gestures.

Cheers

559052 2007-06-17 00:49:00 Telecom said its proposal set out a "bold roll-out plan" for local loop unbundling.

So what happened to the last pile of actionless words, er i mean "bold roll-out plan" of a few years back?:illogical

Are we really expected to believe that telecom will even notice the effect of a mere$300K fine in even it's daily turnover?:illogical

Never mind balls or a fuzzy upper lip, just someone with a bit of foresight and vision would be a good start. (possibly a bit lacking in the halls of Telecom)

559054 2007-06-17 01:53:00 I think Telecom's idea of "bold" probably differs substantially from that of the rest of the country. winmacguy (3367)

Balls definitely, but not a visionary.
