560605 2007-06-27 09:49:00 If Theresa Gatting said that, she was stumbling over her words. What she meant is that broadband (as we know it) didn't exist when she became CEO.

Apart from that, NZ is a long skinny mountainous country, in two islands, with 4 million people, 40 million sheep, a heap of dairy cows, and not much else. Long may it remain that way.

Until the technology of providing broadband becomes cheap, we aren't going to see low cost connections everywhere. I have no doubt it will happen but perhaps 10 years yet........

Remember the first cellphones 15 years ago? $3000-4000, shape and weight of a masonry brick, pathetic range, etc. Today, I have 3 perfectly good phones sitting in a cupboard/children's toybox.

Be patient.

560606 2007-06-27 10:15:00 But according to that Telecom advert there is a fibre optic backbone along the length of NZ all that has to happen is we need to connect houses to it ala Telstra, the problem is the price they are charging, there is plenty of 'dark' fibre in Chch. zqwerty (97)
560607 2007-06-27 11:39:00 ............there is plenty of 'dark' fibre in Chch.

Really......? I'm sure Stephen Hawkins and quite a few other physicists want to know about that. The damned stuff - Dark Matter I mean - has been sneaking around behind Hubble so no-one can see it.

You da man. :D
