560050 2007-06-18 00:32:00 They also make up a bigger power bill as well. Hitech (9024)
560051 2007-06-18 01:08:00 It is true that Plasmas use more power than LCD but the newer models from the likes of Panasonic are bosting Power comsumption equal to LCDs.

I totally agree with Metla on the 8ms ghosting problem, I have noticed ghosting/shadowing of some 8ms LCD TVs, and it can be very annoying.

560052 2007-06-18 09:09:00 Plasma also make a great room heater.

Which is fine for winter, but do you want something up to a 500 Watt heater on in the summer?

I would not buy a plasma by choice.
I agree, same with LCD not up to scratch yet, well seen.

You have to be impressed with Mets dissitation on the eye.

560053 2007-06-18 10:22:00 Heres a curler for you brainy lot which is better progressive scan or 1080i interlace. Hitech (9024)
560054 2007-06-18 10:42:00 Progressive. Interlace renders every second line, alternating each time. This is suited to how CRT screens produce their picture. However, I believe flat panel televisions create a progressive image out of the interlaced input in order to display it. If half the information is missing, then it isn't going to look as good. eg. 1080i for broadcast vs 1080p for Bluray. maccrazy (6741)
560055 2007-06-18 11:34:00 I don't own a plasma or LCD but I've read how in show rooms the lights are brighter and your comparison of LCD and plasma side by side not might reflect what you'll actually see in your own living room..

then again you're only have one big tv in one room so even if you got the bad one you can't compare and notice~ that's what I think anyway
just like how my old 15" monitor's colour seems fine until I got my new 19"..

560056 2007-06-18 11:50:00 If everyones vision was as limited as people claim anything traveling over 100mph would be invisible. Yet we can see a aircraft 4Km away traveling at 600Mph, and we can pick out the detail in a snowflake, The shades of skin on a face, Stars thousands of Km away.

I'm ok with the ability to see certain effects, especially with peripheral vision, and I accept that some people might see 8mS lag, but I can't equate that to seeing an aircraft 4km away at 400mph. That is an angle of arc that is easy to follow even with mildly impaired vision and/or glasses. Likewise speed is not the issue unless the target is very small, so seeing an object travelling at 100+MPH is not problem, otherwise why go to watch motor racing if the vehicles (motorcycles even) are invisible at speed.

Shades of skin are colour perception and don't rely on visual acuity at all, your eyes can resolve colour even if you have severely deteriorated vision.

Stars thousands of Km away? And the rest! Try millions and billions of Km, but there you are detecting light against a black background and that too is easy because there is no detail to resolve.

As for the details in a snowflake, I assume we are talking about This (www.its.caltech.edu) and although I stand to be corrected, I don't believe anybody can see these with the naked eye either.

It's not like you at all to be so imprecise Metla, you are usually fairly accurate when you set out to buy an argument. :D

Cheers

Now there is a good point.

If you start watching a black and white flic, one ends up not noticing in the end,the beauty of the mind to adapt to any rubbish, old 15" tv.

As Met says the eye and therefore the brain soon sorts it all out.
