559408 2007-12-01 02:14:00 Yeah, None of that text book definition of what is worthy means anything to me. Thats like people who claim there is just one true English and other such crutches to swing their elitist delusions off.

I wonder how people knew what worthy singing was before some twit wrote a set of rules and insisted that only .000000001 percent were above the level of crapola.

Must have been terrible times...........

I dunno how he manages to do it, folks, but once again Metla tells it like it is,
and without having to gab on and on about it.

But I know what SJ is on about. When I listened to PPotts, I enjoyed it and still would like to get his CD. However, I thought that probably anyone trained in opera would not rate PPotts highly... and then also thought that I am glad my ears are not so refined as to not enjoy PPotts... if you can follow that. :D

559409 2007-12-01 02:35:00 We will know if he is truly talented other than just having a great voice, when he composes his own originals and promotes them.
All credit to to the guy for getting up on stage and performing in front of the cameras. he did well.

559410 2007-12-01 02:41:00 Terrific .

My fav piece of opera, kindled by the film Very Annie Mary .

Here is another one, of which your heart may miss a beat with true amazement .
She's right up there with Paul Potts, but with more views in less time .

To prove that, you just need to hear "normal" untrained people sing waiata, then listen to Kiri Te Kanawa sing the same songs. When the Dame sings waiata, she follows all of those formal rules, and all of the feeling goes out of the waiata. Unlike some old untrained kuia singing them - the hair goes up on the back of your neck.

You got a favorite beer? wine? bourbon? handgun caliber? Then that makes you an elitist too .

It's a matter of taste and acquired appreciation for things that in most cases are not necessities to life . . . above and beyond it . . . . if you think about it a little .

I listen for technique and ease of attaining it . If and since that's MY criteria . . then Potts is good, but not great .

A great painter isn't just painting between the lines . . that's something you can get a monkey to do if you beat him with a big enough stick . But if a monkey walked outta the jungle and picked up a brush and painted . . then THAT'S remarkable and something to admire . It may not be art . . but don't ask the monkey or the monkey's admirers . . they are tainted with amazement .

Further on . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Yes . . Pavarotti is dead . . but I think he's still echoing around the universe in broadcast radio waves . . . . A man's not really dead if someone mentions his name . . . I just mentioned his . . so he's still alive . . . . . in a weird way .
