2007-06-14 07:28:00 | Well said Billy, I (try to) refrain from these threads as my bluntness tends to hurt their feelings. I no longer buy the mag for exactly the points you raised. And I fail to see why the powers that be can't acknowledge what we can all see, The direction of the content has changed, No need to be snarky about it, Nor try and convince us otherwise. I would be interested to know if they now ship more copies.

2007-06-14 07:35:00 | What typos? Show me a typo! OK, I finally located the June issue and will go through it sometime this evening to locate the mistakes - spelling grammar or whatever they were - somewhere in the first quarter of the mag.

2007-06-14 08:05:00 | I would like to second what Billy just said. Have you guys looked at the 'workshop' section at the back of APC? That is the sort of thing that would make the mag much more worthwhile, at least for me. Also dumb terminal. I quite like the idea of a workshop or how to section since many of the questions on PF1 that don't involve cleaning computers revolve around suggestions of how to do stuff which is where the most info comes out. It is also the reason why most people buy their computers in the first place... they want to be able to do or create stuff like put photo collections together or play around with audio tracks or play games, some of them even want to work.

2007-06-14 08:50:00 | I too agree with the sentiments here. The latest mag stayed in it's bag for about 3 days before I got around to/could be bothered opening it. Even then, it took me a whole 15-20 mins to read. And considering that I can spend over an hour reading through other (Australian ) computer mags, 15-20 mins show you how much I can be bothered to read. I have better things to do with my time. I certainly know what I won't be doing come end of year - that is renewing my subscription. :( Ok, rant over.

2007-06-14 11:52:00 | Looks like theres about $1000 a year worth of subscriptions in this thread alone that could be saved by bringing back (or replacing with something new but as good) some of the old favourites from years ago. | george12 (7) | |
2007-06-14 12:17:00 | " . . . no fewer than . . . ", surely, if you are being grammatical?Yeah and I suppose you're the sort of person who'll only ever close the door, never shut it . :groan: | Greg (193) | |
2007-06-14 18:38:00 | Well said BillyT. I'm pleased to see someone else agrees with what I have been saying for months. Something else that's missing from the mag. What's happened to the little boxed article telling us how many people subscribe to PCW. Perhaps it's not news when numbers start going down. As for spelling and grammer. I'm the last one to criticise that. :2cents:

2007-06-14 22:39:00 | Hey conspiracy theorists! ;) It's press release time . The release in bold below was, er, released a few weeks ago . We're growing, so we must be doing something right . :) You all have some good ideas about things you'd like to see in a computer magazine . But are you guys a fair sample of PC World's target audience? Hmmm, I'm not sure you are . I know my own tastes have changed over the years and these days I prefer a magazine that's more geeky, more entertainment oriented and more niche than PCW . Sadly, NZ isn't the place for niche technology titles to exist, we have to have broad appeal if we're to survive and according to our figures, we're getting it right for most people . That's not to say we're gonna sit on our hands, we're always looking at ways we can improve the magazine and appeal to more readers . Believe it or not, the readers are who I write for . No one else . Anyway, here's the release that went out: New Zealand PC World enjoys strong print, online gains Strongly bucking the category trend, New Zealand PC World has recorded a readership increase to from 142,000 to 151,000 in the latest Nielsen Media Research readership survey, covering the 12 months to April 2007 . A renewed focus on design, larger folios, and a cover disc upgrade from CD to DVD have all been factors in the surge, complemented by a Dec-Jan 200th anniversary issue that become the title's third best-selling issue of all time . The survey period saw NZ PC World pass NetGuide for the first time to become New Zealand's best-read technology publication . The readership surge reinforces NZ PC World's recent growth in circulation, which increased to 16,606 in the latest ABC audit, for the six months to Dec 06, and on newsstands, where its February 2007 edition was the magazine's second-biggest selling regular issue in its 17 year history . Online, NZ PC World's website - a leader in community-generated content - has become the most-trafficked technology website in Australasia . Nielsen Net//Ratings recorded 104,430 unique browsers to pcworld . co . nz for April 2007, generating 418,825 page impressions, giving the site more total visitors, and more page activity, than APC, PC User, PC Authority or Atomic's websites . NZ PC World and its stablemates, the New Zealand editions of Computerworld, CIO and Reseller, became part of Fairfax Business Media in August 2006, publishing IDG global content under license .

2007-06-15 01:56:00 | Nice stats. Personally I don't have a gripe with the mag. Sure, it's kinda light on content and heavy on adverts, but then I don't pay for my copy, so I can't complain. Generally I pay for what I get and get what I pay for. But I wouldn't want to be without it.

2007-06-15 03:07:00 | I have no issue with the dumbing down if its reflected in your sales. I would hate to think that the worthiness of the content was lowered for no gain.
