560564 2007-06-20 10:17:00 The speed is all good. I'm even satisfied with the speed of NZ broadband. That is, if they deliver what they promised. They promised 7mbps, but I hardly get 4! qazwsxokmijn (102)
560565 2007-06-20 11:09:00 the problem is that the speed is all good for only some of us

i'm lucky to see 1.4 nowadays

560566 2007-06-20 11:16:00 I think the goverment should fling a billion at broadband and make sure the providers thereafter return dosh over ,say 10 years. Cicero (40)
560567 2007-06-20 11:51:00 but then end up paying for it twice, once as taxpayers and again as consumers! motorbyclist (188)

Do tell how capitol is to be found?

If goverment via taxpayer finds dosh, the a system to avoid corporate rorts must be found.Shouldn;t be too taxing for all G L's and the like.

560569 2007-06-20 12:40:00 what? sorry i meant WE eand up paying for it twice, because for our government to actually use our 11billion surplus (or whatever it is now) is unheard of, they insist on introducing new taxes, or tolls to pay for projects which they have the money for anyway.

so we'll fork out the billion (which we have already even if they do use the surplus), and then pay it again to our isps:groan:

not that your idea isn't a bad one, it's just those idiots down in wellington don't have half a clue

560570 2007-06-22 03:53:00 There's a small problem with "xx $billion government budget surpluses". They aren't real money. The "surplus" does not exist, so it can't be spent on anything.

"This savings-before-investment figure is an accounting notion, frequently referred to as “The Budget Surplus”, even though almost all of it has been spent."
(from an article by Brian Easton:here (www.eastonbh.ac.nz/?p=842).)

560571 2007-06-22 07:06:00 lol, i always assumed that when they said they 11billion they actually had it.

yet another reason why lawyers, accountants, helen mugabe and sue bradford should not be running the country

560573 2007-06-22 22:05:00 No wonder nothing ever gets done.
So you all would hate it if our government spent money and sorted out our broadband properly?
