Well I was close. Although they are talking about using some vegetable or dairy extract in the next Indy Series.

559961 2007-06-18 08:24:00 Thanks all. Very informative. I am making Methylene Blue stain to be able to see those little nasties. Anybody out there interested in microscopy ? heaton (3697)
559962 2007-06-18 09:35:00 You doing this at home out of interest? What sort of microscope (magnification) do you have? Jen (38)

Just a hobby at home. I have an Olympus Laboratory quality microscope X10 X40 X60 X100 magnification. Also interested in photography.

559964 2007-06-18 10:12:00 If you are wanting to take photos (or even look at) bacteria under a microscope, you really need the 100x lens with oil immersion to see any sort of detail. Without the oil, the refractive index will be incorrect.

Don't the microscope science kits you can buy for kids educational toys contain a variety of stains ready to use?

The mind boggles.

One of my colleagues many years ago made Creme de Menthe from it - Add sugar and peppermint Flavour - and for the wimps a bit of water.
