| 748844 | 2009-02-18 00:04:00 | I recently put in a 320 GB drive and my old 80GB is an external Drive... Can i start up my Computer (so it's like the way it used to be) w/o having to manually remove the new drive and put the old one back in? I shutdown my lappie and at the boot menu i chose External USB drive...The Result was just as if i didn't have the external drive connected at all :waughh: help me plz? :dogeye: |

You think it tried to boot externally, couldn't, then did a normal boot from the internal drive? :confused: I need this to work darnit, lol... :crying |

| 748851 | 2009-02-18 01:33:00 | So is XP installed on the 80gb drive? And is it bootable? Have you tried another port? Windows XP and Windows Vista can boot of an external drive, but it require quite a bit of configuring.. |

| 748852 | 2009-02-18 06:46:00 | In the bios you need to change the boot order obviously but also to go into the settings and find how to change the HDD for a USB drive the drive will need to be plugged in and turned on before starting the comp. On my Asus board it can be done and I can boot externally but my old P4 although it can see my USB drive it cannot boot from it even with the latest bios update so you might be lucky howw pld is your comp. Mine are both running XP home SP3 |
