2017-05-25 07:09:00 | Wow must be bribe year, suddenly there is enough money for Tax cuts. Never mind everything else has gone up majorly. | gary67 (56) | |
2017-05-25 07:17:00 | The accommodation supplement increases. But. Most people, us included, get Temporary Additional Support to make up the difference. That will decrease by the amount the accommodation rises. Thus making us no better (or worse) off. | pctek (84) | |
2017-05-25 21:16:00 | Geez, the usual moaning. www.stuff.co.nz "He said he received more than $600 a week in government support, and paid $105 in subsidised rent for their three-bedroom Housing New Zealand property. He also put a little away into savings each week." But worse: www.nzherald.co.nz "Kelly and Wayne Slattery, who pay $650 a week to rent a four-bedroom home in Botany, live on Wayne's base income of $92,000 a year plus bonuses. "I don't believe you can honestly tell me that a house in this area is worth $1.3 million when you can go to the Gold Coast and buy a house a lot better with a pool and air conditioning and you are paying $550,000 - half the price," he said." Perhaps. But you don't need 1.3M to own a house here. And his pay??!! Yes I know about the tax, my son is the same, part of it in the 33% rate. But the govt has altered the tax rate levels. Mr pays $105 rent and can save. All these people want loads of handouts but bugger all tax. How do they think the govt can do that? It's no different to a household budget. X money in, Y money out. NZ owes enough money as it is, you can't have all these services come from borrowing forever.

2017-05-25 22:29:00 | No mention from anyone about paying off the Huuuuge Govt debt. Thats money that you & me in effect owe . Surely we pay that off when we can Its just me me me . Give me more money. Lets not worry about how much NZ had to borrow to get here Lets not mention our Rock Star economy could fall over at any time, given its now based on tourism, Insurance money coming in from overseas ,farming & importing people . Not the basis for long term wealth, thats the basis of a low wage , poor income economy. Working for Families handout, a friend of mine uses that to help pay for family trips to Aus. When families earning over $100k still get govt handouts , we have an out of control welfare system. www.workingforfamilies.govt.nz

2017-05-26 00:28:00 | Anyone got a link to when these changes take place or are they all 1st April next year? | B.M. (505) | |
2017-05-26 02:05:00 | It's all April 1st. If they get in of course..... | pctek (84) | |
2017-05-26 02:32:00 | It's all April 1st. If they get in of course..... Thanks for that pcteck. I suspected that would be the case but couldnt find confirmation anywhere. The date seems appropriate though. ;) In the meantime I cant find what they intend to do about our spiralling debt. 8075 260 Billion plus and rising strikes me as outrageous.

2017-05-26 03:37:00 | They were talking about the number of useless politicians we have. | B.M. (505) | |
2017-05-26 03:49:00 | The accommodation supplement increases. But. Most people, us included, get Temporary Additional Support to make up the difference. That will decrease by the amount the accommodation rises. Thus making us no better (or worse) off. What's "Temporary Additional Support"? I thought there was only the Accommodation Supplement. I'm asking cause my daughter has just starting renting her apartment, and querying me about any rental support (perhaps from WINZ/MSD), if she were to lose her job or reduced hours - since like her co-workers are on a 3 month trial, and have to meet targets. "All these people want loads of handouts but bugger all tax. How do they think the govt can do that?" I'm wondering if it's because of high rents - as many NZ's want to live in modest/nice areas - so such people want to pay less tax and more govt rebates, etc, to help pay rent. Tax and Rent payments are what most grudge about from their Income... Also, many comments in Stuff NZ were moaning about why only those with kids should get handouts - or the most to gain in the Budget. But If bought up right - those kids would be contributing to their Super Fund as noted by another comment...
