| 1435282 | 2017-05-16 06:51:00 | "How does it affect a computer? The software is normally contained within an attachment to an email that masquerades as something innocent. " Stupidity. And relying on MS to patch....it's so pointless. It goes on and on and on....they are always patching, it never stops. Often there are patches to fix the patches. Taking some responsibility for yourself helps far more. And backup. This particular ransomware also has worm capabilities that uses a flaw in SMB, so it's not just clicking an attachment. Also I'd go so far as to say that suggesting users don't bother installing updates is reckless. | pcuser42 (130) | ||

| 1435286 | 2017-05-20 22:03:00 | This particular ransomware also has worm capabilities that uses a flaw in SMB, so it's not just clicking an attachment. Also I'd go so far as to say that suggesting users don't bother installing updates is reckless. I have seen plenty of fully patched machines with malware. And in all the years I have owned one, I have never patched. And only ever had 2 infections - one on the Amiga. Reliance on MS i s stupid, go ahead and do it if you want, but thinking you're all good just from that? No. It's why we all have anti-virus and backups. |

| 1435287 | 2017-05-22 04:03:00 | Just came across this article while downloading emails. Seems its not XP that was the biggest hit with wannacry but unpatched Windows 7 WannaCry landed nine weeks after Microsoft's patch arrived. www.itnews.com.au (www.itnews.com.au) Looks like if anyone gets hit, unless you have good secure backups, you're screwed. |
