| 1435252 | 2017-05-14 07:02:00 | I’ve been proactive and dumped Microsoft products. :) Not completely -------- One word bullsh1t !! Your wife wouldn't let you. You have mentioned --you're to scared of her. I personally think that the best system of backup is to keep a copy of just the System and affiliated programmes on one external disk, and all your Doc’s, Spreadsheets, Pictures, Music, etc. etc. on another. Thats about THE ONLY thing you've posted in MONTHS that makes sense. As for the "sleeping" virus theory -- MS put out a patch on 14th March - the creators of the latest ransomware have hit computers that have not been updated a couple of days ago. if they knew about the problem before the 14th March it would have been let lose earlier BEFORE the hole was fixed.. |

I know Wainui this is going to be hard for you to get your head around, but I am not my Wife. You will find in Law and Identity I am not my Wife. She has her own bank account and I’m too scared to touch that either and I’m not allowed to wear her dresses. As for the Sleeping Virus theory, I don’t expect you to understand, but others will. Ask yourself these questions. 1: If Microsoft knew nothing about the vulnerability then why would they put out a Patch for an unknown vulnerability? 2: Tell me why one of these felons couldn’t write the Virus to activate on a certain date or any date thereafter? The simple analogy is a Time Bomb situation where you spread the Virus first and some time on or after a chosen date, bang, you’ve got what has just happened. A bit like Microsoft updates. |

The simple analogy is a Time Bomb situation where you spread the Virus first and some time on or after a chosen date, bang, you’ve got what has just happened. A bit like Microsoft updates. Obviously you haven't thought it through, or actually don't know how the infection actually works, and required what conditions to be present. 1. Microsoft DID know about the vulnerability, April 14, that's why they made a patch, it wasn't till it was made public ( via the update in March being put out) that someone exploited it. 2. Microsoft Patched the vulnerability, so even if it were laying in wait, it COULDN"T run and do damage because the vulnerability was no longer there that it required. Think about it for a minute--- If a bug was loaded and waiting, WHY wait two months till after the fix was in place that would stop it from working? If the people responsible could infect millions beforehand, unpatched PC's it would be better than a fraction of the number since some would be patched. (guess that's above your line of thinking) The machines that got infected were unpatched, so the vulnerability was exploited. If the problem didn't exist anymore , please explain HOW they got infected ? So once again you're spouting about things you know nothing about. Proving you simply only like to stir. To educate you: The malware is spread via SMB, that is the Server Message Block protocol typically used by Windows machines to communicate with file systems over a network. The spread of WannaCry has been via SMB. It implies certain ports being open and at-risk hosts listening to inbound connections. If I were to give you the technical details it would go right over your head, :waughh: Read all about it to be proven wrong AGAIN en.wikipedia.org Read the part titled Impact. Most are XP. Microsoft have warned for years they no longer support XP and people run a security risk using it. Microsoft has created security patches for its now-unsupported versions of Windows, including Windows XP, Windows 8 and Windows Server 2003. |

| 1435255 | 2017-05-14 09:36:00 | Wainui if you turn off SMB1 as per Speedys post does file sharing between 2 computers on a home net work still work? | gary67 (56) | ||
| 1435256 | 2017-05-14 10:16:00 | Gary ---- Hadn't actually read Speedys post -- read it, then tried it------ Lost connections to all but 1 other W10 PC (9 devices went AWOL) ;) . The 3 Linux based NAS's all disappeared and couldn't be opened even Via the Run command \\NAS Said it couldn't be located. All other windows based Computers could be accessed if I manually typed in their ID via the run command. Re-ticked the SMB1 and rebooted and all back again, full access as before, all showing | wainuitech (129) | ||
| 1435257 | 2017-05-14 10:24:00 | I thought that might be the case I use file sharing quite a bit here at home | gary67 (56) | ||
| 1435258 | 2017-05-14 12:54:00 | 13 of May was the predicted date of that clairvoyant of ww3 wasn't it? obviously it wasn't correct so someone decided to make it a cyber war. Could these attacks be considered ww3, sure if the media links it they will have a field day with it. Attacks can sit for a while, usually they give them a chance to fix the problem and if they ignore the issue, they make them fix it promptly after the attacks run wild. |

It is always a good practice to back your data (and perhaps an image of your operating system) up to an external drive and keep that disconnected except when actually backing up. That way if you do get an infection you can reinstall your operating system then replace your data. |
