1435793 2017-05-29 03:11:00 Sumatra certainly renders the "problem" PDF OK. The issue really is with Acrobat 9 and maybe other versions as well, although I have established that Acrobat DC Reader works OK. However we have no control over how visitors to the site will view the files and just as a matter of professionalism we should have properly constructed PDFs.

I've sent the email to the creator so now I just have to sit back and wait for a response.

1435795 2017-06-04 01:03:00 Any success Tony?It is still a work in progress. The creator is not very good at responding to emails, so it is all a bit slow. I've suggested she sends me all the source material for one of the newsletters and I'll try and recreate it in Scribus, but I haven't seen anything yet. The one thing she did send me was inconclusive. She clearly has no real understanding about what she is doing or any sort of efficient workflow, but that is not really my problem. Tony (4941)
1435796 2017-06-07 20:49:00 The situation has been resolved, but maybe replaced by another problem - the editor has resigned. She has been in the position for 10 years so it may just be coincidence, but maybe the pressure to lift her game technically contributed. What technology the new editor (yet to be appointed) will want to use is not known but I will certainly be recommending against Scribus. I've been playing with it a bit and it seems to be a total PITA.

Thanks everyone for the help and advice.

1435798 2017-06-07 21:12:00 Are you volunteering Tony?Absolutely not. :) I was the editor from 1988 (everything produced on a dot-matrix printer using Lotus WordPro) to 1992 and have no wish to do it again. I have offered to give help and advice to the new editor on technology, layout, workflow etc if he/she needs it. You can see the newsletter archive here;
