| 1435242 | 2017-05-13 22:41:00 | It's not the point. Having disaster recovery in place is the point. If they can't do it themselves there are plenty of 3rd party places that do this. So, leaving the door open is OK as your insurance co. will fix the problem after a burglary? |

The insurance company expects you to take reasonable care of your property. If you do not they are quite likely to refuse any claim that is made. Taking reasonable care of your data/PC is just plain common sense. |

| 1435244 | 2017-05-13 23:50:00 | Taking reasonable care of your data/PC is just plain common sense. While That's true, a LOT of people have no common sense when it comes to computers and looking after them. Real good example of that was the other day, had to fix a persons W10, the problems were created by the users actions - Explained what had happened and why and how to prevent it, and wouldn't you know it she goes and does the exact same thing again only seconds later right in front of me -- WTF!! |

| 1435246 | 2017-05-14 01:01:00 | Well it's easy if you use Win10. Just go to control panel / programs and features / turn windows features on or off. Untick SMB 1.0 / CIFS. Then reboot |

| 1435249 | 2017-05-14 05:28:00 | There is plenty of defences against it if you been proactive Ive been proactive and dumped Microsoft products . :) Personally, I think this latest Microsoft saga is one of their great Own Goals . :clap You would have to be damn naive to think that if you build in back doors side doors hatches and tunnels into the operating system, (to give them access to to all the computers data), that some felon wouldnt work it out and take advantage . However, another aspect, that is of casual interest to me, is that Microsoft knew of the threat and provided a patch about 14th March Im told . Some two months later the Virus strikes . Now, could it be, that the Virus was timed to strike at a future date so systems that have been cloned have actually cloned the Virus sitting dormant in their clone? I just cant help thinking that for the Virus to get such a large hit, it has been spread a long time ago and set to hit on 13th or May or whenever it activated . Which would mean, for those sitting smugly on clones of their system, there might be real disappointed in the restore, should it be required . My dislike for Microsoft Products and their Business Ethics is no secret, but leaving them out of the equation, I personally think that the best system of backup is to keep a copy of just the System and affiliated programmes on one external disk, and all your Docs, Spreadsheets, Pictures, Music, etc . etc . on another . Not bomb proof I guess, but up for discussion . (Oh, disconnect the backup drives when not being used for what they are intended) ;) |

Yes Linux servers but of course you will gloss over that fact as you are now just like winmac guy or like apple fanbois in your adoration |

Are you saying that if you get a parcel with a bomb in it it's the postman's fault? |
