1434644 2017-04-28 10:00:00 Nope dont think we have used google docs before..........

I do remember tho we used an updated version of Libre, and the lecturer could not open the file,

But I will look into what she is saving them as, and see if we can find a word count in any of the above

We use publisher at my work, but we add a lot of glam and photos - for childrens folders, and cant rememeber using word since way back in the dark ages......
I think I used works when I was studying and had similar problems with readability by lecturers... :(

My girl just wants something simple and easy to use, has a good spell check and a really good word count......

thanks all.

Make sure to save as doc or docx. I personally export everything to pdf so nothing should go wrong, but to be safe why not go both doc and pdf.

LibreOffice and Google Docs both have word count under tools. Pretty much every word processor has this feature, it is only a matter of finding it.

Is your daughter at school or uni?

1434647 2017-04-28 21:14:00 It will be the saved format of the document that is the problem not the program creating it.

Until Beetle can tell us what they are being saved as we cannot offer a solution as just about all word type programs have the ability to save to the same format as MS word these days.

.

Thats what I keep saying.
The problem is the idiot receiving the documents, not the one creating them.

1434649 2017-04-29 00:34:00 But it seems I regularly have had this problem, we do not seem to have word. so we need word.

I will go hunt in the shed for an old disk i guess, but my best option would be to buy online ??? and download it? for a year, single pc?

thank you

MS Office 365 Has all you need. $99 at Wanganui warehouse at the moment Then pay again nect year. I have a caregiver at this rest home who is doing a Management Course & the Personal 1Disc version is included it her Course Fees. Some places used to give a free access to the school computer.

However the .doc versus.docx is a bind. Have you looked at Compatibility? She also needs to find out what the Tutor is using. PJ

1434650 2017-04-29 04:06:00 the problem was she used Libre on one laptop. an it had issues, so now she is using 2nd laptop an it has open office i think. both programs are saving as .doc libre was up to date. not sure about open office if it is up dated.

any questions or comments to girl about essays, study an programs cause grumps. but all are being saved as .doc

1434651 2017-04-29 04:24:00 Tell her to talk to the IT people at the school. They can fix the problem. Which is not at her end. It's the lecturer. pctek (84)

1434653 2017-04-29 05:32:00 Why not post/eMail one of these .doc's or whatever as an attachment to someone reliable on this site, see if they can open a previously rejected document from your daughter's lecturer.
