1435784 2017-05-28 09:37:00 compatibility problem maybe, document creator not knowing what their are doing more likely.I think that is highly likely. Tony (4941)
1435785 2017-05-28 09:38:00 Here is the pdf I made in Scribus opened in Firefox:

My sample looked OK in Firefox as well.

1435786 2017-05-28 09:51:00 It's not a Windows/Apple incompatibility. I just created a Scribus doc using all the default settings, saved it as PDF, then looked at it in Acrobat9 and got the really bad rendering. The font was Arial Regular. Changed it to Times new Roman and got the same result. Tony (4941)
1435787 2017-05-28 09:53:00 Those two links look really interesting and useful, but I suspect sending them to the creator will have no effect. She has totally ignored any offers of help so far. I think I need to actually find a solution and present it. Tony (4941)

1435790 2017-05-29 02:16:00 I've looked at those links Plod and they were very illuminating. I've done some trials, and certainly if the fonts in the Scribus document are not embedded there are problems. I would be most surprised if the newsletter creator has any clue about any of those issues.

I had a response from the Scribus forum which pointed out pretty much the same things.

I also had a look at one of the problem newsletters and this is the fonts tab of the document properties:

8088

Sort of says it all doesn't it?

I now have to construct an email that (a) explains to the editor that there is an issue (which I expect her to probably deny) and (b) describes what she has to do to fix it.

I'll post back with any results, but in the meantime, thanks everyone for all the help.

1435791 2017-05-29 02:26:00 Tony, why not try Sumatra pdf, here is a link to a portable version which should eliminate Acrobat as being the problem if Sumatra renders faultily as well:

I'll certainly look at Sumatra PDF out of interest, but I think we have established that the issue is with the way the creator is (not) handling fonts in the Scribus document. I don't think Acrobat is the issue.
