Chorus - 2020, not that far off.

www.stuff.co.nz

Spark starts next year. I know it's not a pull the plug all at once scenario - for instance, my brothers street hasn't been wired for fibre yet so they can't really do it to people who don't have the option yet.

But might as well now than later. Seeing as the price is now the same. I choose Fibre100 Broadband and Landline - 120GB 12 Month
Monthly PLAN $94.99

Son moved back (again) so hence the 120gb.

Sparks is keeping the NEC PSTN running until 2020 . Whether the coper gets pulled out depends on who runs the fiber in a city. i.e. Hamilton fiber is not owned by Chorus so Chorus is keeping the old coper going for the near future to compete..

1435448 2017-05-19 06:48:00 My ADSL to Fibre switched over smoothly with minimal interruption -- half a day?

But the copper to fibre phone change over was a nightmare -- I was without the landline phone for a week! Was very mad with Spark / Chorus.

1435449 2017-05-20 03:43:00 I am aware of both those things.......it's one reason we avoided it so long.
But we have to sooner or later.

Lucky husband doesn't read this forum, he'd want to cancel it immediately.
I'm replacing the network cable under the house next week too, that's causing enough drama, he frets about the dumbest things, as if I've never run a cable before....sheesh.

Doing a job at the moment, the loom has 72 cables, and somehow have to thread 3 patch panels with cables attached through the holes in the new cabinet. :waughh: Pulling all the wires out and rewiring is not really an option, that would a damn nightmare.

1435451 2017-05-20 22:05:00 LOL, not like that here! It's run it from modem under house and back up into the particular room, as is, not wired into a jackpoint.

Haven't done real cabling since I worked at the University....
72 cables? We'd do hundreds....

1435452 2017-05-21 06:15:00 These days it is illegal to install jackpoints unless an equal number of jillpoints are simultaneously commisioned. R2x1 (4628)
1435453 2017-05-21 07:25:00 Well copper in rural is about all there is so they can't get rid of it unless they offer something else, we are still on ADSL as this township can't even get VDSL gary67 (56)

Why exactly? Did they tell you what the issue was?
Mines still saying "asking neighbours for consent".

No they are not.....guess that's a Spark message for you're in the queue.

Did the network cables yesterday, now I remember why I quit the Uni job, god I hate cabling....

They could not explain anything, Spark pushed to Chorus and Chorus kicked it back to spark.

They have one common explanation and that was : "We are working on it."
