If you buy locally you immediately pay 15% more for GST and potentially have an importer, exporter, and retailer all taking a profit. Also a smaller market means the seller needs more profit per item to make it economical. Many local sellers import directly themselves to skip at least one step. I agree though, the price difference is bigger than it should be and freight is a non issue as bulk shipments would be cheaper per item that what we pay to have something shipped direct individually. I occasionally feel bad buying from overseas, but the price difference quickly ends any sympathy I might feel for local sellers. |

The NZ way of doing things is pretty much stuck in the 1950's overseas manufacturer -> overseas distributor -> NZ importer/agent -> NZ distributor -> retailer . All adding their markup. No wonder NZ companies doing parallel imports are so much cheaper :) For me, buying retail is often cheaper than buying at trade prices from official distributors |

| 1434868 | 2017-05-03 20:14:00 | I have bought several items from Aliexpress with no problems at all I had a bad one. Seller wouldn't refund, Aliexpress just kept on saying go back to seller. Took it to Visa in the end. |

I used paypal, On their site you have a buyer protection. Looking at it yesterday, in a nutshell When you pay with PayPal on any website PayPal Buyer Protection covers you if you have a problem. If an item doesnt arrive or is significantly not as described we will help you to get a full refund. May look into that. :) |

| 1434870 | 2017-05-03 21:34:00 | One problem is some of these services have a time limit of 1 month and it takes that long for some things to get here - well from E-bay anyway - so by the time it arrives or doesn't arrive it's too late for bad feedback or payment disputes. I've had afew things never arrive from e-bay, but nothing above $20 so I just write it off and try to remember the seller to avoid in future. |

So the Aliexpress "payment protection" scheme is worthless ? I found paypall to be good , Ive had paypall refund me for unsent/backordered goods where seller wouldnt refund Aliexpress wont use paypall, thats allways made me a bit nervous buying from them . |

| 1434874 | 2017-05-13 01:43:00 | Aliexpress/Alibaba is just a vehicle for sellers. Owned by Yahoo. Any issue is usually with the seller. Payment type is ESCROW which means seller does not get the money until transaction is completed, usually a couple of weeks after confirmation or payment protection runs out. As for disputes, they step in if you can not reach an agreement with the seller and usually their judgements have been fair from my own experience. If you did not get your outcome you wanted, they would have noted what the issue is. I notice Ali cops the negativity while the stores can keep safe from it. Usually bad reviews will disappear while they reissue new links but their score is still affected. |
