1435817 2017-05-28 12:18:00 rebooting the router fixes it until tomorrow.

they've replaced the modem twice and given me a total of 4 free routers since november last year.

when the internet goes down i can't ping the router but i can ping the other access point across the built in switch.

i'd switch providers but it seems for $119 a month no one else can offer me unlimited nz calling(landlines and mobiles) a static ip address and up to 1000/100 (i typically get up to 700/90

myrepublic offers faster speeds but they cost more with calling being more on top of that.

how can i eliminate this problem? i had zero problems while on the cable network for the past 15 years. is it possible that using my own router will eliminate this problem?

1435818 2017-05-28 22:06:00 Had a similar problem when I changed over a while back. While it didn't drop the internet completely it did go on a go slow, dropping at times down to 10Mbps while the upload remained good at 90Mbps. The guy from chorus checked everything out and the problem was not actually at my place but closer to Vodafone, either in the cabinet or some other place down the line . Seems to be fixed now.

What he did say was the early versions of the Modem/routers did give disconnection problems. The ones they now use, work better.

This is the newer default setup, modem / router:

8085

You can use your own router if you like you just need to set it up so it will work on VLAN10. FibreX mimics UFB so need the same routers. You HAVE to use their Modems.

The complete settings from Vodafone HERE (help.vodafone.co.nz) under VDSl/Fibre/FibreX.

I used the TP-Link Archer C7, there's a picture in the answer from THIS THREAD (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) showing the settings I use, works fine.

Going back to the question, if you have your own router, and it can take the Fibre settings, give it a go, cant be any worse.
