1435773 2017-05-28 03:37:00 I'm wearing my community help desk hat. We have a community newsletter that is printed once a month. It also is uploaded to our website. AFAIK it is produced on a Mac using Scribus which is an open-source page layout tool.

The issue is that depending on how you view the PDF it renders quite differently.
Three attachments:

8081 8082 8083

The first one is how it appears using Acrobat 9 - fuzzy and totally indistinct.
The second one is in Chrome - OK, but with weird thickened verticals.
The third is in Firefox - looks OK.
I can also say it renders OK with Acrobat Reader DC and also prints satisfactorily.

Different issues of the newsletter show different variations. Using Acrobat 9, sometimes the whole issue looks like the example, sometimes just page 1 is OK and the rest is bad (for example) and sometimes the whole thing seems OK.

I'm guessing it is something to do with the editor's production process, but she is reluctant to communicate about it (Why - who knows?). Looking at the PDF file properties it is a very old version - equivalent to Acrobat 6 - could that be an issue? Scribus uses Ghostscript to generate the PDF.

Does anyone have any ideas about what is going on?

1435774 2017-05-28 06:42:00 These are pictures of .pdf documents, try turning off the anti-aliasing before printing, also try telling the producer of the documents to embed the fonts, and preferably to use fonts common to Apple and Windows, like Arial and Times New Roman not obscure choices.

Possible fixes???? Not sure.

1435775 2017-05-28 06:49:00 I wondered about the fonts. I have a problem in that the author is ignoring any communication about the issue, for reasons unknown. It may be a Scribus issue. I've posted on the Scribus forums as well, and also downloaded Scribus so I can try and replicate the problem. Tony (4941)
1435776 2017-05-28 08:45:00 I've just typed out the screed on Notepad then used Scribus to make a .pdf and it looks fine in Sumatra pdf reader.

Is it the printing out that is the problem?

First up, we have the AGM towards the end of February. We are luring you in with another
wine and cheese and I have heard murmurings of a delectable carrot cake, that could also
make an appearance. If you wish to vote on anything, then make sure you are a current
financial member before the night. The treasurer will be on hand for any last minute cash
paying punters. Remember, ten dollars pays for your entire household's
membership...probably the best bargain anywhere.

Have we got any young people in the shire that plan to delve into local body politics at
some stage of their careers? A good way to start would be a term on the WRRA so have a
quick think and get your nominations in. We need new people especially those with good,
fresh ideas who will turn up once a month to meetings.

You can get Portable Scribus from here:

1435781 2017-05-28 09:26:00 Yes, I don't think it's a Scribus issue, more likely an Apple to Windows compatibility problem with the fonts used not being present on the Windows machines. zqwerty (97)
