749563 2009-02-20 03:00:00 I need an AGP vid card that will support two monitors,
independantly. Not sure of the term, but it needs to connect to D shaped 15 pin plugs.

I was looking at a Matrox G450 AGP, but really dont know much about it,

The two LCD video screens will only be showing data (letters/numbers) and only one screen will be used at a time, though colour will be involved. If thats important. DUH, :-) one keyboard, so obvious one screen at a time!

System is a 7VM400M-RZ, AMD Athlon XP 2500, 512 ram an yeah I know its old, but it runs just fine and does what I want :-)

I have no idea re the power supply, except it goes :-) :-)

Looking for any suggestions.

749564 2009-02-20 03:14:00 Do you want both monitors to show the same thing tho?

I've got ATI 9550 AGP cards in the other PC's here.

One of these should work. Just as long as whatever you've got has DVI or VGA connections (these have DVI and VGA connections)

Thats the point of having a card with 2+ inputs / outputs, you'll see the same thing on both. So, you'll be looking at 2 screens not 1. And you only need 1 kb

BUT, if you want to view 2 separate screens you probably need a nvidia based card

749565 2009-02-20 03:35:00 Thanks Speedy.

I need the card to individually support two totally separate programs. For instance, one monitor may be showing Internet Explorer, while the other monitor will be showing, ahh Pricespy.

With my one mouse and one keyboard, I should then to be able to use IE or Pricespy, but naturally not at the same time.

Hope that makes it clearer.

Ah this is actually possible, (you only need 1 pc and mouse / keyboard, for 2 monitors) but if you want to see 2 different screens, as in my previous post.

You probably need a Nvidia based card (I know these can show 2 different screens). I've never seen an ATI card that can do this tho. ATI cards show the same thing on both screens

749567 2009-02-20 03:47:00 Matrox cards tend to be pricey and aimed at the business market. Our Draughtsmen at work use them for exactly the sort of thing you mention, although no Idea what model.

Any Nvidia card that suuports dualview should be fine, pretty sure ATI have a similar option but unsure of that. I have used dual monitors in the past - even for such unlikely things as watching a video while playing a game - and always on an Nvidia based card. Most have a DVI & VGA connector or 2 x DVI these days but also usually come with at least 1 DVI - VGA adapter ( VGA is the 15 pin D connector you mention, sometimes called D-sub among other things )
