| 561436 | 2007-06-21 18:07:00 | Hi, i am a second year student in uni and i am studing computer science and i am trying to look for a job that involvs what am studing at the moment, but i can't seem to find a good thing or something that would get me a head start. Most jobs need experienced people and i am asking in this forum if any one can give me a hint on where to start... if any one got any ideas to share, i would be so gratefull. Thanks:confused: |

| 561437 | 2007-06-21 18:20:00 | I always respected people who wanted to learn my trade by offering to intern with me for a few weeks to see if they could learn, like and appreciate the technicalities of my profession. If someone came to me with that sort of offer, I'd consider them very seriously for the position of full-time employee later on. You might want to offer for free, your services in a shop that does what you want. They would likely afford you a foot in the door that way. Once a long long time ago, I offered to even sweep the floor to get into a place I wanted to work. The owner told me: "No way! Nobody starts at such a high position". He eventually gave me a job anyway. |

| 561440 | 2007-06-21 22:02:00 | You might want to offer for free, your services in a shop that does what you want. I would agree with SJ. Especially if you dont have much or any experience at all. Its a tough world we live in. I used to look up Seek IT all the time but all the jobs required people with experience so I did what I thought was right. Approached a company and told them I was looking for work experience and assured them that they dont need to pay me at all. And after 2 months they liked what I did and started paying me part-time  Hope this gives you some idea as to what you can do. |

Thanks for the support. Sixty years ago if I had written a letter with so many spelling mistakes no employer would have looked at me - even as a motorcycle mechanic (my first temporary job). I now use WORDWEB a free program that even checks these posts. It is a mindless device without the ability to think so doesn't know that "I" should be used and not "i" Things have changed, but even so I do hope you improve your use of English and when you are as old (& wise) as I am you will have a go at the younger generation who will appal you with their mistakes etc. You will get some good interesting job. Just keep trying. Tom |

| 561443 | 2007-06-21 23:57:00 | . . . and don't be afraid to take a job that may not be exactly what you want . I started out as a pre-dental major and an English-Lit . with Fine Arts as a co-minor in college and instead became a hydraulic/diesel mechanic with lots of other interesting jobs in between . It was great fun, a little frustrating and a whole lot of enlightening all at the same time . |

English is my third language yet I try very hard not to make mistakes. |
