561257 2007-06-21 05:25:00 WHy do case manufacturers insist on separting the wires for USB? A nice solid connector wouls be so helpful.

I've just spent 50 minutes on the phone explaining to someone how to do it, with the page from the motherboard manual and explaining how its 2 sets of 4 wires, and the markings the them never match whats written on the board.

Geez.......

561259 2007-06-21 05:51:00 I agree pctek. When the wires for the front panel components are separated it can be a real pain, very fiddly.

Good cases though, tend to have good connectors.

I think they have gone with a standard now and they all seem to be the same.

561261 2007-06-21 07:09:00 yeah they are very irritating along with front panel audio - it takes so long to do it properly and it doesn't help if you have big hands like me :p MAC_H8ER (5897)
561262 2007-06-21 07:43:00 Well I can .
But someone who has never done it . . . . . . . . .

First get them to look at motherboard diagram .
Get them to match that to the actual board .

That took ages actually . The diagram is screamingly obvious to me, but I guess not to someone unfamilar epsecially once its got CPU HSFs, HDDS and stuff cluttering it up .

Now get them to find the cable .

Then get them to note whats written on each wire .
Get them to match that to whats written in MB diagram, so it corresponds .

Explain that its not 8 wires, its 2 sets of 4 .

Get them to see there are two sides to the USB pins .

Wait while they attempt to plug them in .
Massively painful, more so for them I guess .
Especially with bad eyesight .
