561063 2007-06-20 10:52:00 :stare: Okay. Common Scenario, Friend buys an Acer Laptop, (Travelmate 240XC) Many years ago and now he comes to me saying that it has wireless and bluetooth buttons but they dont work. Then I deliver him the news that it doesnt have bluetooth and wireless, but then he pulls murphys laws on me and gives me the specs sheet that Dick Smith gave him for his laptop, for an Acer Travelmate 240 WITH wireless (Not an option but actually with wireless)

Now correct me if I am wrong here, but 4 Years ago Dick Smith gave him this Spec sheet at the time of purchase and it says with wireless, but so he thought he was going to buy a laptop with wireless, but is it HIS or DICK SMITHS fault that he does not actually have wireless??

561064 2007-06-20 10:54:00 Looks like it's DSE's fault. DSE advertised it with wireless, but the product came with anything but.

Complain to DSE. Does he have the receipts?

561065 2007-06-20 10:59:00 yeah he does but I havent looked at them yet. But then what happens from there? mabix (10146)
561066 2007-06-20 11:07:00 DSE, if cooperative and abides to the rules, offer your friend a free wireless and bluetooth upgrade to the computer, or at least cash compensation. qazwsxokmijn (102)
561067 2007-06-20 11:12:00 They're a good store when it comes to things like that, I'm very sure they'll sort you out. They'll probably just give you a free wireless card off the shelf. george12 (7)
561068 2007-06-20 13:16:00 But would that be good enough though. I personally wouldnt want to have wireless card or USB dongle. I have one and its a nightmare hence my new laptops has to have that feature. Start by asking for a lot of cash and/or a new laptop.

BTW, it took him 4 years to discover this?

I think a reasonable solution would be a card, due to the age of the laptop, and the fact that the buyer didn't check that the laptop they purcahsed actually had what it should have. Obviously they haven't been disadvantaged by not having it in the past, and a 4 year old laptop wouldn't have had wireless at the same speed that you can get now.

561070 2007-06-20 15:31:00 I am fairly sure that it is the law of the land.that if you advertise something to be the case, then that is the end of matter,so Tricky is liable.

A call to consumer affairs will clear matter.

561071 2007-06-20 18:02:00 Although I applaud DSE return process I think this is going to be a stretch for them to take any action. 4 years!! It could be argued that your friend simply picked up 2 spec sheets for a different model while he was in shopping mode. I would say if they even considered offering a wireless card or dongle then take it. sam m (517)
