Imagine a freeway to the base camp at Everest, some 5,200 meters in altitude or over 17,060 feet.

Work starts soon as the logistics are already worked out.

Shhhhhhhhh! we're trying to get a free trade deal remember?

You're putting at risk all that diplomatic dancing our politicians have been doing in the last week, carefully not meeting the dalai lama merely bumping into him "hey! fancy seeing you here!".

This is about MONEY. Lets not ruin it people, get with the program.

560699 2007-06-19 23:48:00 Well I'd go. I've wanted to travel to Everest Base Camp for years and if it is possible to drive...............why not?

Mind you, this isn't the real Base Camp. The proper one is at the business end of the Kumbhu Icefall in Nepal on the South-West side of Everest. The Chinese hold the north side of the mountain. :D

560700 2007-06-20 01:03:00 The South Side is to be declared illegal and will not be recognised. Persons / groups using southern approaches will get NO rice crisps next month. R2x1 (4628)
560701 2007-06-20 01:21:00 Yeah..but can you get an engine to run at 15,000+ feet altitude? I'd hate to see anyone have to push their Lada to the parking lot.

My Chevy gets a little winded at 8,000 right now. Might need some really LARGE turbochargers and very low octane fuel.
