Global warming is nothing new, the poles have been melted many times over history so only relatively recent creatures (in comparison to the age of the Earth) would be dug out of the ice. There have been living "fossils" discovered though, one being the Coelacanth. This fish was assumed to have died out some ten million years ago, but in 1938 a live specimen was caught off the coast of Madagascar. Quite a few more have been caught since then, so on the quite reasonable assumption that the Coelacanth is not the sole representative left from that era, there may be a few more surprises waiting in the wings.
