750032 2009-02-21 09:13:00 Even tho the tray opens, is it connected to mains power?

It may do the same thing, if you connect it to a USB port, but may not get recognised unless its connected to the mains

Yes connected to the mains. Tray will not open/close unless it is. Just tried it. PJ

750033 2009-02-21 09:13:00 Press the windows key (if the keyboard has one) + the pause key

Then the hardware tab

Try unplugging it from the port, then plug it back in

Looks like these burners can be fussy. Some will work while its plugged into a USB port, some wont, until you plug it in after windows has loaded

750034 2009-02-21 09:22:00 OK got there.
Item DVD/CD Rom Drives only shows an Asus CRW-2410. Which would be correct.

Looking further down the list I see...USB Mass Storage Device with a yellow ! in front of that line. PJ

750035 2009-02-21 09:32:00 Double click on that USB mass storage entry. Then the driver tab / update driver / 1st option then next. See if it installs something

If it installs nothing delete it then reboot (pull it out, before you reboot, plug it back in after XP has loaded)
