2009-02-20 05:57:00 | Ok, no google in the add/remove programs. the closest thing is google-earth. I did the thing with services.msc and disabled the box next to google update service and rebooted and immediately the computer's firewall put up a note asking me if i would allow googleupdate.exe out to play.. so that didnt work. this is too strange. I dont think the name in my windows taks manager/ processes be like this, googleupdate.ex ,where it is missing that last "e", there isnt such a thing as '.ex' files is there?

2009-02-20 06:06:00 | Then you just select block googleupdate?? When you install any google product (such as Google Earth) it installs google update with it. Is it really googleupdate.ex in task manager? Cause in your hijackthis log its .exe....

2009-02-20 06:21:00 | I believe it is part of the Google Chrome browser updater, I seem to remember complaints about it being left behind when Chrome was un-installed. Have you ever had Chrome on your computer ligh500?

2009-02-20 06:21:00 | Yes, I am sure it is that way in Task Manager. I have a snapshot of it but i dont see how to attach it. there is plenty of extra room in the column so i know the last letter isnt getting cut off. i do block it, I am really trying to get, besides my own privacy, is why my computer is running slow...and if i just block it that may not stop it, if that is the problem.

2009-02-20 06:34:00 | Found this simple and easy solution but they dont work because i can stop the darn thing in windows task manager. access denied. (entangled.wordpress.com) To Uninstall GoogleUpdate.exe: (how I did; modified from the above instrution) Stop GoogleUpdate.exe in Windows Task Manager Run msconfig and disable GoogleUpdate.exe under StartUp (no need to restart) Delete GoogleUpdate task in C:\WINDOWS\Tasks Delete “Update” folder under your C:\Documents and Settings\Your name\Local Settings\Application Data\Google Clean up any term with “GoogleUpdate” in the registry file via regedit (Warning!). If you’re not sure about doing this, then just use CCleaner to clean up the registry.

2009-02-20 06:42:00 | No, i dont have google chrome but i do have google-earth, it is in the same folder as the google earth file is. i tried deleting the googleupdater.exe program from there but access was denied there too. i am going to try to start menu feature in spybot. and then maybe try starting in safemode and trying to delete it then.

2009-02-20 06:44:00 | Make sure its not running first, if it is kill it then delete the files / folder Then use ccleaner or glary utilities to remove everything else for it

2009-02-20 07:03:00 | I had the same problem as you. I did it this way: Go to Start>Run, type "services.msc" (without quotes), scroll down to Google Updater Service, Right-click> properties, In Startup type, change it to Disabled. Then, Go to HiJack This, select "Open the Misc Tools Section", select "Delete an NT Service", type "gusvc" (without quotes), click yes, and restart. Then, kill the GoogleUpdate.exe in Task Manager, disable it in startup (Go to Start>Run, type msconfig, go to Startup Tab, Uncheck GoogleUpdate or something simillar, click OK and don't restart) and see if its in Schedule Tasks. Delete it if it is. Then get CCleaner (on my sig) and do a Registry Scan. Fix any issues. See if that fixes the problem.
