561735 2007-06-23 04:51:00 Hi WMoore.... Did the electrician supply you with the required Electrical Certificate of Compliance? It should contain reasonable clues as to Work Details.

Not yet, I am waiting for the bill to arrive, so maybe he will send it with that.

Excellent. Have him come back and fix it before you even consider paying the bill.

561738 2007-06-23 09:39:00 The CoC is not related to the bill, though you do have to pay for it . It is a safety and regulatory compliance certificate and is supposed to be issued as soon as the work is completed .

Off the top of my head I think the time allowance is about 48 hours but I could be wrong on that . The time frame is short though, because if he has completed the job and carried out his safety checks, there is no reason why he can't issue it there and then .

Issue of a CoC is a statutory requirement unrelated to the contract for electrical services that you entered into with the electrician, and he cannot or should not withhold it for any reason, nor can he tie issue of the certificate to payment of his account or any other condition .

Cheers

561739 2007-06-23 09:47:00 The electrical contractor has 20 working days to provide the CoC to the owner.

Regulation 40 (a) of the Electricity Regulations 1997 (including amendments).

561740 2007-06-24 04:07:00 I have just noticed the washing machine and dryer are also on a 16amp CB.
Could that be changed to a 20amp CB. ?

Depends entirely on the size of the cable they are protecting.
If 2.5 mm cable, yes.
If 1.5mm cable, no.
