Why has it taken four years for him to find out?

561074 2007-06-20 22:06:00 Could there be some kind of "statute of limitations" on this?

I think DSE would be within their (morale) rights to tell the friend to go away. It's been 4 years for crissakes!

As for their legal rights? No idea.

If it was me, I'd be too embarrased to go back to them and complain. Would accept it as a lesson learned.

561075 2007-06-20 22:48:00 Perhaps Mabix's friend didn't get the chance to try out the wireless features of his laptop until now? Wireless hotspots weren't that prevalent four years ago. :p

Cheers :)

561076 2007-06-20 23:03:00 Did the spec sheet specifically say the XC had bluetooth? There were other 240 models. PaulD (232)
561077 2007-06-20 23:11:00 I think for me I would just leave it .

Its been 4 years.I would move on and buy a new laptop. Why waste time and argue something that happened 4 years ago?

How will you explain to dicksmith when they ask.Why did it took 4 years for you to realise there was no wireless?

561078 2007-06-20 23:28:00 To claim he urgently needs a wireless connection after 4 years could open a slight credibility gap. R2x1 (4628)

No, but we still had wireless routers. To date I haven;t used any wireless hotspots simply because they charge way too much.

You can still enable wireless on the laptop to test if it is has the feature. When they purchased it they really should have checked that it had everything that it should have come with. 4 years down the track is way too long. A computer is written off after less than 3 years these days, and a laptop even sooner.

561081 2007-06-21 08:23:00 Well...........

If it is provable that it was sold as wireless equipped (not just wireless capable) then the passage of time is of no consequence and the CGA as well as other legislation would require DSE to make it wireless enabled.

A new laptop is probably not required, just some add-ons, but if it is not able to be wireless enabled then DSE should by law be providing a repalcement laptop that is. It doesn't have to be new, but it should be of equivalent value.

Time per se does not erase a trader's legal responsibility to supply goods as per description.

Proveability not forthcoming as yet?

In fact vague seems to rule .
