2007-06-20 05:28:00 | Have a look at this thread about multipliers (pressf1.co.nz/showthread.php?t=78833&highlight=NIST), Joe. My first posting(#3) has a link ("proper") to a page on the NIST (used to be the NBS) web site. All is explained in that. ;) | Graham L (2) | |
2007-06-20 06:59:00 | What's difficult about the metric system? The imperial system with it's varying and arbitrary conversions seems completely crazy to anybody born after the change. The metric system is simple, except when it isn't. | TGoddard (7263) | |
2007-06-21 05:31:00 | Joe probably learned at school that "A pint's a pound, the world around". US pint's are 16 fluid ounces. The rest of the world had pints of 20 fluid ounces. | Graham L (2) | |
2007-06-21 08:19:00 | So that's why youse guys get drunk so easy! | SurferJoe46 (51) | |
2007-06-21 08:23:00 | OK..so why do hotdogs come in 12-packs and the buns in 10's? In New Zealand hotdogs come in 8 packs and buns come in 6 packs....now thats the metric system!

2007-06-21 11:22:00 | Whadaya mean ya don't do metrics SJ? Were you not born with 10 fingers and 10 toes like the rest of us? No only that, metric are a darned sight easier to work with than imperial measurements, especially the bastardised US systems where you lost sight of the original basis for the measure, obscure and stupid as it may have been. Now if we could only metricate time (and nothing but convention stops us, though certain natural time scales are wilfully uncooperative) we would be on a roll. Kinda amazes me how insular yanks can be, present company excepted of course, you are an honorary kiwi SJ. Cheers Billy 8-{) As for comment by some about 6 & 8 packs etc, metrics is weights and measures, not purchase numbers. Six sausages still come in a 500gm pack. Sheesh!

2007-06-21 18:26:00 | Could you send me my passport then? I follow your deca-digital explanation, but now tell me about the body's binary system too...let's see...I got 2 of these, 1 of those, a pair of them and a few of these things here. Maybe if we weigh them individually they might come out in kilos and grams..but I think that might be a shortchange too. :o

2007-06-21 21:19:00 | Bugger Metrics. I still think in feet and inches, and ounces and pounds. And I calculate my fuel useage in miles par gallon. What the hell do litres per kilometer mean?:2cents: | JJJJJ (528) | |
2007-06-21 21:24:00 | It really amuses me that some people who were very young or born after metrics was brought in also talk "miles", "feet", "pounds", etc. :p | FoxyMX (5) | |
