749911 2009-02-21 06:29:00 Does anyone know, is the 9800 GX2 video card prone to overheating problems. JJJJJ (528)
749912 2009-02-21 06:58:00 Doesn't surprise me a lot if it does, although I don't use a PRO graphics card as yours. But if you want to play heavy games (well, that's the whole point having such a good card), the temperature may go up to 100 degrees centigrade. A friend of mine said that his 8800GTX goes up to 80-90 degrees centigrade when he plays games. LynX (14542)
749913 2009-02-21 07:05:00 I'm having problems during hot afternoons. Distorted picture and even lockups. If I reduce the size of the window or shut down one monitor it stops the problem.
Overheating is the only thing I can think of.

749914 2009-02-21 11:15:00 if it starts locking up, stick a fan pointing at the pc with the side off it.
if problem goes away its overheating.

if problem stays its prob something else, (but may still be a bad contact with heatsink causing overheat)

Lian Li case with stock fans. It's quite good realy.

What I have doubts about is two vid cards in a box with one fan and a gig of ram, realy working overtime.

Did turning off Cool and quiet actually solve your issues?

One fan in your Lian Li?

It also depends on airflow through the box.

On what? CPU or graphics?
I never run any of that, you want your fans going flat out while gaming.

749920 2009-02-22 01:48:00 Cool and Quiet? Isn't that an AMD feature? I thought you have a Core 2 Extreme?

It would be pretty hard to overheat a GPU to the point it will corrupt graphics unless you are really negligent to your case's airflow or if the GPU's fan has failed.

Google and download GPU-Z and check the sensors page to see if the card is indeed overheating. You don't have to open up a game to fully load the GPU - download Atitool and run its 'Scan for Artifacts' feature. It will work the GPU to over 95%.
