749838 2009-02-20 23:00:00 Question for all the mac junkies that i know are out there, (PC users run away).
I have just been give a iBook G4 by my old school and i have been going around changing all the settings to my own and I discovered that some of the preferences in the system preferences pane are grayed out (see pic), which confused me cause I am an administrator on it and only just made the account yesterday.
Any ideas on how to fix it? Short of reinstalling it?

749839 2009-02-20 23:05:00 sounds like the preferences have been deleted, create a new account and see if they are missing in there plod (107)
749840 2009-02-20 23:08:00 i only just created this account though plod, and only just installed growl which is the last icon on the right in the bottom line of icons. nedkelly (9059)
749841 2009-02-20 23:16:00 Have you repaired permissions?
EDIT
And if that doesn't work you could try trashing the system preferences.

1. Quit System Preferences

2. In the Finder, open up your user folder, then open Library, then Caches. Drag com.apple.preferencepanes.cache to the trash.

The cache file will be recreated the next time you start System Preferences. Tell us if this clears up your problem.

Don't go telling everyone. I think you will get pretty frustrated using the old G4 after a while.
