750327 2009-02-22 20:03:00 I’ve got a balance sheet here that has been sent in PDF format and I would like to convert it to an XL spreadsheet so as to be able to do some calculations without using a calculator.

I’ve tried a couple of programmes that import it ok but you can’t calculate anything as it seems to be just an image.

Any suggestions anyone? :thanks

750328 2009-02-22 20:20:00 So you have googled "pdf to text"?
I thought that would give you plenty of options.

Yes there are many programmes to convert it into text, but getting it from there to XL so everything stays in the right column and can be calculated is the trick.

750330 2009-02-22 20:55:00 Most "PDF-to-X" conversion software are not freeware.

B.M. You mentioned it seems to be just an image. In that case, you would need an OCR to recognise the text first before attempt to convert it to .xls(x).

Perhaps you can ask nicely for the balance sheet to be resent in Excel-compatible format?

Cheers :)

Don’t mind paying for something that works.

Which has just reminded me that years ago, at huge expense, I purchased a programme called Adobe6 with Adobe6 Distiller. As I recall this was supposed to do something along these lines but I can’t remember ever getting it to do anything useful. :groan:

I’ll dig it out and give it another try.

And no, unfortunately I can’t get the balance sheet in XL format, more the pity. :crying

Dont know what the limitations are tho, for the trial. There may not be any, its a trial for 7 days

And what to do with it (www.mrexcel.com)

Yes Speedy have now downloaded the trial version and it works a treat so won't need to take you up on your kind offer. But many thanks anyway, including the link.
