750260 2009-02-22 07:38:00 Maybe 20 bucks on trademe....if you're lucky Blam (54)
750261 2009-02-22 09:12:00 About 10 bucks less than $5
In other words you would probably have to pay someone to take it off your hands.
I have had machines that were way better spec'd than that and pretty much couldn't give them away.
When people, like my brother-in-law, are given a decent 2nd hand PC with a 17" LCD screen, for free, it's impossible to sell anything that is more than about 5 years old. :crying

750262 2009-02-22 20:02:00 keep it a couple more years then donate it to a museum, they may accept in in place of an admission charge.. Or give it to a kindergarten for familiarity training... fnphoto (2434)
750263 2009-02-22 20:23:00 Obviously not worth much to the tech savy.
To the general public it is probably worth more.
You need to find a way to get it to the general public like a for sale card in the supermarket, price it at $50, you will find someone.

750264 2009-02-22 21:08:00 Considering I just got -given- a P4 1.8 GHz, I doubt you'll be able to sell it. I'm not you could even -give- it away... utopian201 (6245)

Yeah, agreed, although $50 sounds steep to me.

The thing is probably worth more for the software on it than for the hardware in it.
It is of use, and of interest probably only to a novice user who simply wants to get and send email to / from the family. ie, if it has a dial-up modem, it's for a grandma. Nobody else will be interested.

See if your town has a senior net group. Consider giving it away to them, or selling it dirt cheap. If you get enough to pay for your gas and a burger on your way home, then you've done ok.

I do 98% of my work on a P3-500, running W98. It's great. Perfectly adequate. You do NOT need GHz speeds to play on the net... not even with broadband (which is still loads slower than dino-PC's like mine. Yours however could easily be 'flooded' with broadband, but has merit for dial-up).

Why should the elderly be inflicted with such a thing? Some of them have loads of money you know. JJJJJ could be considered of SeniorNet age and look at his PC - beats the pants off yours.

I basically have stopped doing much with Win98 PCs, its getting hard to find software for them - and you need 3rd party protection of you are going to use the internet - dialup or not.

If I have to I fix them but its getting to the point of not worth the effort.

I dunno PCT. I sold a 486 to senior net a few years ago and I,m told it is still the best PC they've got.
