2009-02-21 21:58:00 | Hi all. I have Windows XP Home with SP 2. I have Comodo's Internet Security and Malwarebytes, only. Like to keep in simple. I have had iave intermittent problems with things like, locking up, going very slow, etc. Often only way to restart is to turn the power off. Sometimes on restart does not recognize any hard drives. Today all that happen was the floppy light came on, and stayed on. I again had to turn off the power and was then able to restart in safe mode. I did a restore back to yesterday morning. That went through and, at least, running again. My question is if there is a program I can run to find out whats wrong? Please help before I throw it???? Thanks, :banana:banana Ian | ianhnz (4263) | |
2009-02-21 22:16:00 | If the floppy led stays on (while windows is running), the cable is connected the wrong way | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2009-02-21 22:19:00 | Run HijackThis and post a log here for analysis. And have a look in event manager(Run>eventvwr) for anything dodgy

2009-02-21 22:20:00 | Thanks speedy, but I don't thinks, so, as case hadn't been opened for a while and it's running now. But thanks, | ianhnz (4263) | |
2009-02-21 22:22:00 | If you don't use it, you can disable it in device manager and see if that makes a difference: Run>devmgmt.msc

2009-02-21 22:27:00 | Disable the floopy, do you mean? | ianhnz (4263) | |
2009-02-21 22:28:00 | From what you mention, lockups, Floppy light suddenly coming on and staying on, it could be a power supply related problem some place, or the motherboard may have developed a fault. As Blam pointed out earlier - look in the eventvwr, esp under the system logs, any fault should be listed- you need to look for any error message that is repeated at the time of lockups etc, copy and paste back the complete error message. Edited: your question: disable the floppy ? -- if the floppy is faulty it will cause a problem BUT if its something else causing the problem by disabling the floppy is only a temp fix / patch as what ever the fault is WILL return with something else.
