563253 2007-06-26 16:12:00 Here comes da judge . . this time to make it impossible to use (even with proprietary rights like we do in the US) the storing and playing something you've already bought, own and have in your possession . :stare:

(A) proposed amendment states: "DVD products, alone or in combination with other DVD products, shall not be designed to descramble scrambled CSS data when the DVD disc containing such CSS data and associated CSS keys is not physically present in the DVD player or DVD drive (as applicable), and a DVD product shall not be designed to make or direct the making of a persistent copy of CSS data that has been descrambled from such DVD disc by such DVD product . "

The amendment would force, say, DVD playback software from displaying ripped content . It would also imply the use of software built into PCs and optical drives to prevent ripping software from saving an unscrambled copy of a disc's contents for later playback on a device without a DVD drive, such as a PSP or an iPod .

Looks like it's time to buy up all the current style of DVD players you can afford and sit on them for sale when this hits the fan .

Hmmmm . . . a blackmarket on old DVD-players? :p

563255 2007-06-26 21:11:00 Bit like closing the door after the horse has bolted.. Guess the legislators are more concerned about the profits of the media companies that the welfare of their own people. Also the MPAA getting back at a company, Kaleidescape that they tried to sue and lost.. Bribe some polititions and we can still kill them off. paulw (1826)
563256 2007-06-26 21:19:00 Just wait for DVD John to crack that. It won't be long before online renting/downloading of DVDs makes that ruling irrelevant although that could take a while to reach NZ. It sounds like a lot of the movie studios are keen on a US $2.99 for a 30 day online download rental from online music stores. winmacguy (3367)
