2007-06-24 10:04:00 | They all look dang fine to me. Although, I suggest you upgrade your RAM to PC6400 (DDR2 800). Core 2 Duo do best with PC4200 or PC6400+ memories. | qazwsxokmijn (102) | |
2007-06-24 10:12:00 | I think you could do better with the case. Cooling high spec components is important and that case doesnt look like it has very good ventilation... Just my 2c

2007-06-24 10:13:00 | I had thought about ddr2800, do you reckon the latency 4 of the 667 would be worse than the latency5 of 800, cos decent latency 800 is way too pricey | Pacifier (2821) | |
2007-06-24 10:13:00 | I'll stop you there. Go with 32bit vista for a year. With the fairly powerful computer you're building, you'll be disappointed when hardly any games work with it. Even 32bit Vista is pretty bad. - you may want to consider dual-booting both XP and Vista if you can't live without some older games (and even new ones like NFS Carbon.) 64bit doesn't really equal better performance - their is some debate about this - it mainly allows more than 4gbs of RAM and some security benefits. I'd also consider getting 2 more 250gb hard drives instead of 1 500gb, and raiding them. It's cheaper and has better performance. If you don't know what RAID is then ask.

2007-06-24 10:24:00 | Sorry ducky, it should read 2 X 250 drives, they will be in raid 0, the 500 is just for data, I will be runng XP as one of the other OS's. I run alot of VMs so will use Vista as the base for that, at leat I'll get to use all the memory. | Pacifier (2821) | |
2007-06-24 21:47:00 | Hard Drive - Samsung SP2504C Hard Disk Drive, 250GB, 7200rpm, 8192KB Cache, SATA DVD writer LG Electronics GSA-H30NSBBK DVD Writer, DVD 16R/18W/8RW, CD 48R/48W/32RW, Internal, SATA Make it Seagate. Make the DVD ASUS, Pioneer or Liteon.

2007-06-24 21:57:00 | Doesn't running VMs slow things down a lot? I notice a lot of latency and slow loads/running when I VMd 98SE and 2000Pro on a pretty hot Dell I use as a test bed for "things" that shall remain nameless here.

Yeah it does, but my coin won't stretch to a dual quad server unfortunetly, so I'll have to out up with the slow downs, although it will be markedly better than my p4 2.2 is now |
