Interesting. I've been with Westpac since they ate Trust Bank and have had no problems whatsoever with Safari and their online banking.

563322 2007-06-27 10:24:00 Safari is the most horrible browser ever. I gave it a look the other day, went to a dodgy site to see how vulnerable it was, and my computer virtually froze up and started launching all kinds of things without me allowing it - it allows telnet prompts to be opened from an iframe. Ridiculous. roddy_boy (4115)

:o I just logged into my own bank with Safari...although I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to. Mind you there have been more sites that are friendly to FF than to Safari although that should start to even up.

563324 2007-06-28 12:42:00 seriously, is this about internet transaction security or just another ad for mac? i'm actually unsure of the poster's intent for this thread.

i mean, the question answers past the first didn't actually answer the question. the question should have been "what os do you use to make secure bank transactions", to which my answer is "the one i use for everything else", which i suspect would receive 100% of votes. was this deliberate or an innocent mistake, because it sure seems to me like an ad for mac.

563325 2007-06-28 12:45:00 now here's a thought, what if someone saw the vast number of mac users as an unprotected virgin market ripe for stealing from? i mean, mac users wouldn't know what hit 'em would they? that's millions of bank transactions with only the bank's security...

suddenly using 3rd party software isn't such a bad idea isn't it? you still can't save idiots

For all the people that I have read about that have tried, most say it is too much effort for very little reward compared to Windows.
There is a small program called ClamAV for Mac that gets used on networks to keep the PC viruses out and away from PCs.

563327 2007-06-30 10:06:00 My bank has Netguard as an extra logon after u/n & pwd, it's a different combination every time, so keyloggers etc are of no benefit. They most likely did it to protect MS users, as MS has the biggest user base etc etc Phil B (648)

Size of the user base is irrelevant once they have your password to your bank account they can syphon the cash from your account. The trick is to prevent the keyloggers and malware from having any chance of installing on your system in the first place - without the need for spyware scans. The crims are always smarter and faster than the banks and the customers. They only have to hit 10,000 customers for $100 = $100,000 (total) each out of a few million to get a pay off.
