The responses have been interesting.
Every body has commented on the obvious like the PSIII and the Apple stuff but not many people have commented on the Wii (except for Bruce)which along with the Apple gear are two of the most successful profitable product lines on the list in the hand held gaming and music categories respectively.
There were a few other music players that I didn't list.

562802 2007-06-26 06:24:00 It is interesting to see how many people "think" that stuff from Apple is more expensive overall and gives less value for money compared to the opposition simply because it is Apple. (computers not withstanding) Generally a competitors MP3 player will get a price reduction (sale special) in order to increase its sales (with a corresponding reduction in profit margin) when they need to boost revenue to make up for continually declining sales, despite the fact that the materials and manufacture still costed them the same amount or more prior to the device going on sale.Apple sell their name. Like Levi jeans and McDonalds. Doesn't mean its better or superior, it all comes down to marketing. iIpods have a well known fatality rate, yet people love them and want another. Why? The same reason people will buy another McDonalds burger or another set of Levi jeans. Its the name (and supposed unconscious bragging rights)

The Wii is an interesting deviice. Doesn't have the same graphics ability as the P3 or xbox 360, but is truly innovative and this has caught on.

The catching new customers is something that the other game device makers have failed to do hence their lack of profitability.

Apple selling itself only on brand awareness is not quite the full story.
Apple's brand awareness certainly goes a long long way in helping the product to sell but it is not the only factor in the companies success. You can market a product to customers but the product usability has to be on the same level otherwise once the marketing hype has died down you will loose all of your customers to the competitions product resulting in lost sales. This is not tending to be the case with Apple over the last 7 or so years although it is showing up a bit more with Microsoft who has started trying to compete against Apple in the hardware device market with the Zune without much success despite deep pockets $$$ and a huge campaign.

I do believe the wii has something going for it that the other gaming systems don't. price for one thing and play ability for another, most of the games on it are family orientated that can be played with the whole family, obviously not for a serious gamer.

The above comments are from someone that has never played the 3 gaming systems. Just from what I have heard

562805 2007-06-26 06:52:00 The Wii concept also opens the way to fully interactive multiplayer games where the player actually becomes part of the game rather than just sitting at a desktop toying with a joystick and keyboard controls. winmacguy (3367)

Too much marketing material.

I think the more numerous Wii customers would tend to disagree with you Metla as would the company's financial results for the Wii.

the Wii must be a well used device if people are complaining about carpal tunnel syndrome (or something similar)

You wouldn't catch me dead in front of an xbox (its the MS POS thing) and I can't afford to be buying Wii consoles willy-nilly. I was actually basing that comment on something Chris said:
Sure, Wii's graphics barely give Playstation One a run for it's money...Was Chris wrong?
